i know you can buy engine spray paint at auto stores, but what about hand painting? the valve covers im buying are flat black with red lettering and i wanted to change it to orange lettering. where would i get paint that i can brush on, but still hold up to the temps of the engine and also the grime, and road wear?

I would think that you could spray some paint into a small plastic cup and then use that with your small detail brush... :dunno:

The most important thing for painting the engine is proper prep and de-greasing of parts. Most of what people blame on bad paint (peeling, flaking, etc) is more due to painting a part that had residual oils on it that prevented proper adhesion in the first place.

just use brush-on touchup paint. the valve covers don't get hot enough to burn it off. i painted my valve covers and all accessories with touchup paint from walmart and it's held up for over two years with no problem and plenty of mud.

i like those paint pens at craft or hobbie stores goes on nice and even and there is no clean up.
