Harbor Freight Jack Stand Recall

been hearing a bit here and there about issues with those.. i have some of the older 12 tons that i've been happy with..

I have one pair of 6 tons. No way to get them replaced up here though. Thankfully I have 12 tons to use

I really like the stands I've got, but will probably return them to HF and get a new set.

I have the orange 6 ton ones, I think they are a previous model but I better check the numbers. Thanks for the heads up.

I've got two sets of the orange without model numbers and one set of the grey 3 tons. None were part of the recall. I checked last night when I got home.

Good thing too, I do this a lot with them...

I checked my 6 tons last night and they are the recall ones.... I also do that ∆ with them alot.

Kinda reinforces my practice with Harbor Freight stuff. I a 3 ton will do the job, I get out the 6 ton. My hope is that using something overrated will help offset potential quality issues.

I have to check the weed torch I have before I use it--I just read some of those are on recall too, says they "will not shut off" after using the turbo button for a more intense flame...(guess no one knows how to turn off the valve on the tank ?)..
I paid $5 for it new in the box at the flea market last summer--maybe that's why it was there and so cheap--it had already been replaced ?..

I guess the "Hazard Fraught" nickname has some merit..
I'd like to buy one of their rolling tool boxes, but their other items--well,I just hate to spend money China will get,and use to make more viruses and defective products since 2020 came along..
It would be one thing if only Harbor Freight sold China stuff, but since every other retailer does too,its no wonder they have enough money to build harmful stuff..

I wonder what the actual failure mechanism is? I have piles of jackstands, most bought at Menards but probably come from the same crap china shop.

I have had the orange 6tons for a long time and never had a problem, I guess they are not the defective ones. I am not bothering with checking.
I have a set under a stake bed that I have in storage and loaded with parts and I get up on it all the time and jerk it while shuffling stuff, 2 years now.

The jackstand recall should be a reminder to all how important they are.
A few years back I had a cousin die when his tractor he was under working on fell on him.

I also remember an episode of garage squad that they did for a guys chevy dually, the owner was in a wheelchair for life from a vehicle he was working under falling on him.

All the reasons you cited and more are why I don't buy anything Made in China or Not Made in USA from USA Materials & Resources by Americans. Unless it's something I have to have and there's neither a new or used 100% Made in USA option available.

Generally, I've found the best non made in usa products come from europe particularly germany, poland, england and the worst from asia, the middle east, india, mexico & south america.

In the case of jackstands if you can't find new or used Made in USA one's and you're not able to fab some up, pay an American fabricator to start making them for you to market, bet you'd sell a bunch on this site alone. Buying, Selling and Making 100% Made in USA Products from 100% USA Materials & Resources by Americans is how we #MakeAmericaGreatAgain

I'm a jackstand customer if one of our ck5 fabricators wants to add jackstands to their line.

Also about two years ago I bought these wheel lift stands from Bill at my lift stand they're rated at nearly double the weight of a k5 blazer and they work great.
I bought them initially because I needed & wanted non hydraulic wheel lift stands to put sub frame connectors on my sons 3rd gen camaro, they did the job and I've also had my k5 on them as well.
AND they're 100% Made in USA from 100% USA Materials & Resources.
I'm sure they'll out live me.

Looks like not anymore. An unfortunate partner name nearly everyone in the world is familiar with now. :doah:
