The center console latch doesn't shut and the glove box flops open at random intervals.

Both seem to work but I think they're just wore out and the various internals of them won't hold them shut anymore. How hard is it to replace these? Can't really figure out how they come out/off.

I see Rock Auto and LMC have them, I bet even the local NAPA can get them. Are they keyed to your specific keys or are they just generically keyed to the door keys of the era?

They are keyed to your door, in theory.

Have you bent the little lock hoop part into the correct position? I really doubt yours are worn past working. Have u lubed them, to make sure they are closing/latching all the way? Spray them with a good dry lube. Do your current keys work?

If so, there is a way to pull the lock core out of the center console latch.

IIRC though, the glovebox latch isn't keyed. Mine really needs to be slammed to shut all the way, but when it is, it doesn't open.

i ended up replacing both and now both my glove box and center console lock. make sure to use locktite bc mine somehow decided to work loose

Ummmm...no...

I'll try some of my chainsaw lube. 188K I'm finding a lot of the little stuff on this thing has seen the best days of it's life. The bones are good but the interior and related stuff has seen a lot of use.

They fit and they turn but that's about it.

It will literally flop open on it's own going down relatively smooth (for Michigan that is) paved roads.

Welcome to the world of used and abused. That is the current thing going on my 89 V1500, they were hard on the interior..

My center console also doesnt shut unless I slam it. I'm considering shimming the lock hoop up to see if this would make a difference.

btw when i say slam it, I mean really fing slam it. Which I'm not too keen on since theres a $400 computer in there.

Try adjusting the hoop by bending forward/backward. Mine didn't latch when i got it, and it took me all of 36 seconds to fix it that way.

You have an old Chevy, the glovebox door pops open, and you're surprised? :haha:

Mine do that; after careful adjustment they don't do it so often. :D

It's about to get careful readjustment with a hammer...
