So...my ashtray keeps flopping down. To the point it almost won't stay up. It has some kind of a dysfunction. Any fixes? Is there a spring or something in there?

IIRC there was a spring that was missing on my ashtray in the 86 blazer i used to have , causing my ashtray to keep falling open. And i also seem to recall it being a pain in the butt to get back in

1) remove ashtray
2) replace spring
3) reinstall ashtray

:D:D:D

In high school, I made a cup holder that slid into the ash tray hole, because it would not stay closed. And I needed a cup holder.

I have the center console two and I just want the thing up and out of the way.

Anybody care to elaborate on this spring?

Also, how do I get the damn door out? Errr wait, it must be behind the ashtray on the door then?

A 6" piece of duct tape should keep it closed. JB Weld will last even longer. Real weld even longer still!

Take out the ashtray assy. A couple screws on the underside of the opening I think, and a couple at the top of the opening. This should be more evident when you get it out of the opening.

Okay wise guys, still nothing. The guy I got my bumper from had none of the springs and I sure haven't found it in the Blazer even when I pulled the carpet out the other week.

Anybody have one of these springs? Anyone have a picture of it so I at least know where it should go and what I should have?

i know theres two screws on the underside of the door and when you open it up, inside there up top is two more. that is basically the bracket holding the assy in there, never taken it out but i would think thats how it goes.

I just wanna know where this stupid spring is supposed to be.

it should be on the right hand side of the ashtray door assy. it is not a very big spring and is pretty tough to get back in , or at least mine was with my big ass hands. if i remember correctly there are two small holes , one on the dash side of the ashtray assy. and one on the assy. itself that the ends of the spring clip into , like i said it has been a while so if that isnt right hopefully someone will correct me

I had a spare ash tray and a can of spray paint that was the right color, so the whole thing got swapped out... just because If going to the trouble (PITA) to remove it, might as well replace it.

I can't even find the whole assembly. The guy I got my bumper from had all kinds of the ash trays but couldn't find a door or the spring for the life of him.

Hah. Must be nice. Everything older than the 90's was crushed or parted up here in the yards. Took me two months in '07 to find a semi-local passenger side seat belt assembly and the guy and I still had to each drive an hour to meet.

Same here. I like a trip to the pick n pull to peruse the newer inventory. And this stuff is all rust free texas stuff, too.
