I have been looking for a roll cage for my 87 k10. what brands sell them to fit the 87 style cab and what brands are a better fit and protection.

Kit cages are somewhat economical...but fit is usually fair at best. In order to ensure they fit every similar truck they don't tend to fit very tightly to the interior. Each bend costs more, so they have as much straight parts as they can get away with.

Best bet for a cage you'll like, and suits your pruposes best is to have it built to your spec's...or build it yourself (if you are a decent fitter/welder.)

There are many areas of my cage that are within 1/4"-1/2" of the dash, windshield header, and various areas of the body. No kit cage is going to fit like that.

S&W makes a cage kit, but like trusty said, if you want a really good fit/finish you better bend it yourself or take it somewhere to have it done

Both Jegs and S&W sell the most popular kits for our trucks. I have heard that S&W makes the cage kits for Jegs but can't confirm if that's true.

You will have to cut, fit, notch, and weld the cage "kit". Basically they bend the A and B pillars and the halo that goes over the roof. Everything else is left for you to piece together.

Don't forget that you will probably be paying a couple hundred dollars to have the kit shipped to you.

If you can avoid using one of the cage kits, I would. A good shop should be able to build you a good cage for a reasonable price. If you are willing to make it yourself, even better. You can borrow/buy a bender and a tubing notcher. I used a notcher from Harbor Freight and it worked fine for me.

(Part of my chassis is an S&W cage)

I dont believe the S&W cage is the same as the jegs cage. I have the S&W cage. Actually several of the tubes were notched, and they just needed a little fine tuning. The roof halo will need to be cut to proper length and notched, no big deal.

They had some kind of sale when I ordered mine. I think to my door it was like 500 and that was the DOM cage.

Mine was the DOM S&W cage and I felt that it was pretty far from bolt (weld) in.

I think one of the vendors needs to offer a better fitting cage kit for our blazers/suburbans/& pickups. There are so many offered for jeeps, why not for 73-87 chevys?

merace19, you posted a link to that cage once earlier. Once is enough, and anything beyond that leads me to think you have something to gain from 'advertising' in this thread.

That cage didn't look any better or stronger than any other kit cage I've seen anyways.

I just posted it twice due to me only halfassing it the 1st time. I dont give a crap about them or there cages. Its just a place i know that sells them. I build all my stuff.

Here is a comparison from the S&W cage vers a custom built cage. You make the choice.

I beleive he ended up having the entire cage built by a shop
