hard shift problems

a good tranny. try removing most of the fluid, that will soften it up a bit.

Not necessarily. A tranny going bad can start to bang into gear too. It could be possible that the fluid is overfull. Have you checked the fluid level? And it might be a good idea to tell us the year of the truck, and what tranny....its kind of hard to diagnose a problem without knowing which tranny it is...
