How hard should it be to shift a 203 in a 77 K5? I have to pretty much jerk it back and forth and hope I land in the right gear.

I had a lot of issues with my old blazer, '77 with np203. Seems like there are a lot or issues with the shift linkage binding(at least there was w/mine)
One of the older mechanics I used to work with recommend a good cleaning and then literally soaking the linkage with oil. He said that's what they used to do back in the day. Mine definitely got better with some cleaning & lube.
If you're really interested ORD makes a replacement 203 shifter setup that's a whole lot sweeter than the stock setup.

Give it all a really good clean up, lube it and make sure it's adjusted properly. They shift pretty good really.

What did you guys spray on there to clean & lube them with? Can I do it from inside the cab , you know take a cover off?
And I`ll go right now to ORD and take a look.
The P.O. did the minor maintenance up to changeing all the fluids [ diffs , t-case are clean ] but not much else.

Another thing , tonight I went to put my console back in and in 4Loc it wouldnt fit , in 4Hi [or what ever its called :D ] it went in fine?
The Mechanic put it in 4Loc after putting the t-case back in...
I can fix it but its just weird...

You should be able to remove the boot asy and access it that way. Brake cleaner works good, or if it looks real bad use some engine degreaser first then wash it off good and lube it up with either some clean oil or use a weather resistant type of spray lube. Wynns Viscotene works real good on all kinds of stuff.

Just remember you can't overlube it, some things work better all sloppy & wet

Yes...I learned that years ago.:D

Ok good deal , as I have brake clean and Eng degreaser both sitting right here.
And I will see if I can get some Wynns Viscotene around here.
Maybe NAPA has it.
I need to put the boot back in the right
way anyway , the shop put it back in crappy :(
I`d like to clean up the chrome ring too , it will be easier out of the truck.

Well THANKS guys for all the help ! ! !

OK.

Umm how hard is it to get the boot assy off? :eek1:

[ I`m to lazy to run out 20 feet to go look :wink1: ]

I don't remember for sure, haven't had a 203 for quite a few years. My 205 boot/ring just screws into the tranny tunnel/floorboard :dunno:

Well if Chiltons doesn't know , I`ll go look. And hopefully try to finish it tomorrow.
