Hi everyone. I'm in need of an apparently, very hard to find part. I have a 72 Blazer and when I got it, the dash was all cut up. I tore it out because I decided to build a custom dash. Now the dash is gone, I've decided it would be nice to have the stock look back. I don't know where to look. I checked memory lane, the internet and every place I can think of. You guys have any suggestions?

Thanks

I know where a real nice 68 Burb/ambulance is and I think it can be had for a decently reasonable price. I need the front clip and could part with the rest of it.

I also have a 67 and a 72 cab. I may or may-not ever fix my 67 but the 72 cab has a good dash I believe.

I've got a take out dash.
Your talking about the metal dash area, not the dash pad though, right?

On this subject.....how do you take out a dash in one piece?

There are bolts on the two sides, and it looks as though it also is spotwelded to the lower windshield frame area all the way across??? :dunno:

Kurt, is your takeout dash a nice unmolested one, or has the radio hole been cut? :deal:

As you noticed, taking one out in it's "entirety" is damn near impossible.
The easy way (this is how I do it) is to cut the perforated area that lies under the dash pad.
Easy to take out, easy to put back in.

Yep, still like factory issue. :D

Check my new post..... I've just moved to the dark side of a restoration, and have easy access to do the dash in "one piece" if I choose to...... :yikes:

I saw something of it...gotta link?

Even so, still the tougher way.
Go out and buy a couple extra sets of spot weld cutters if that's the intended route.

Before diving in, consider these couple things...
Removing the factory spot welds around/under the windshield frame/cowl area could become counter productive.
#1 - it's extremely time consuming/very labor intensive.
#2 - by separating the factory welds, you risk the possibility of both misalignment and never regaining the factory integrity of the joints.

Yeah, I am talking about the sheet metal dash, not the pad. I'm gonna need to entire thing (all the way to the windshield lip. If you have one available, let me know a price and how much for shipping (being in socal kinda has its disadvantages when it come to getting parts) and I will gladly purchase it.

1967k10, send pics if you got them.

vtblazer, whats a "take out dash"

You're joking, right? :eek1:

Most people would KILL for what you guys have in your local Pick-N-Pull yards.... plenty of early trucks, and most of them are still rust-free.

You might want to open up your search to include pickups also...IIRC the dash is identical anyway. Who knows you might be able to find a decent one in a yard somewhere local and cut it out yourself.... :dunno:

Yea, there's tons of full truck dashes out here for cheap. I opted to just weld in a new radio section instead of replacing the whole thing, but if your entire dash is missing, try a pick-n-pull and look for a truck which has an identical dash. Blazers are very hard to find though.

I just found one at a wrecking yard for trucks and SUVs locally. To have it removed and then purchase it will run me around $200. That's about what I was expeting to pay for material to build a custom dash so it works out. Thanks for your help guys, I'm sure I'll have questions later on.

You can probably find one at a pick-n-pull for $15 if you pull it yourself. Just takes a portable angle grinder with a 4" cutoff disc on it.

'67- ,72

Good Luck with your find. There out there. If you deside to run AC I can help there. I have a complete install. $250.00 will get you all the under dash stuff.
My $.02
