Hey,
Anybody got any good ways to remove a hard top using ONE person?

I used to have a carport that was just tall enough that I rigged up a few 2X4s that would slide under the top after I removed the bolts. I then had a come-along winch attached to a pulley hanging from the center of the carport (when the top was hanging from the carport, it would blow a little and change direction with the wind - wife called it "The Redneck Windchime", which I actually took a little pride in :) ). It worked good til I moved. Now, I got nothing.

Help a brother out!

I have a similar setup...wire rope, pulley system going back to a boat-trailer-type manual winch mounted on the wall.

One person, though?....short of a forklift through the back window, I got nothing. Sorry

I put some 4x4s in the ground a casters on the top of them. I could back up, drop the tailgate, and walk the top off until it would roll on the casters. I've got pics here somewhere.

Here's my thread.

Pretty sweet, kota4bye. I'd have to hang plants or a hammock or something from it to appease the wife.

Thanks. The basic design was actually her idea....I think she wa tired of me backing it into the ditch out front and asking her to help carry the top to the garage.

Just don't forget to strap the top down in case of high winds.

I have a deck on the back of my house. I put some eye bolts under the deck in the beams, then back my truck under it, unbolt the top, then stand inside the truck and use my legs to push the topper up while I slide a ratchet tie-down strap under each side (left to right) at the rear of the bed. I then hop out and yank the back of the topper up about 1". Then I can slide another ratchet tie-down strap up to the front, then yank it up about 1". Then I can drive away.

Since I don't have anything over the top to hang it from. After I took off the bolts I just walked it back a little at a time til it could pivot it down to the ground. Once it's on the ground I just walk it a little at a time somewhere convienant. It's harder if the truck is lifted. Getting it back on sucks even more

That's the idea I was thinking of, w/o a garage or carport. The first time I saw something similar, the 2x4s where some kinda 'A' frame that the guy set on each side of the truck, stood inside, lifted up, and slid a beam across, think he used PVC actually. One for the front, one for the back. But when he was done, he could put each frame, and both beams back in a shed or whatever to keep them out of the way.
