I've got a bad water pump, so while I'm in there doing that I decided to replace the harmonic balancer.

Previous owner wasn't sure if the balancer had ever been changed, and it looks pretty ancient. I am also replacing the fan clutch, belts and the like.

Went ahead and got a water pump stud kit from advance and borrowed the puller tool while I was there. About to dig into this tomorrow, any tips or suggestions?

Don't forget to get a oil seal.... Like I did....So I got to pull it twice.

I'm finally getting around to finishing this tomorrow. I've been trading my time in for $. I think they call it work.

Anyway...I removed the old balancer and replaced the seal. Engine cranks clockwise correct? Anyone have a genius idea to get 200ft/lbs on that bolt without turning the motor over?

Also I see the key to line up with the notch in the Fluidampr I bought and the spacer, so there is only one way to install. The damper has timing marks on the outer edge. Pay no attention to these? For ignition timing???

Yeah ithe balancer only goes on there one way. The timing marks are useful in replacing an IP, not really a water pump. You'll need to impact it on there with the crank bolt. Once it bottoms I hit it with another zip of the impact....ha! Call that 200 ft lbs.

One more question...How do I know when to stop applying force with the installer tool? When the balancer appears to be bottomed out to the crankshaft nub there is still a little more give in the installer aka few very hard turns left. I realize I shouldn't force anything. Just being ocd again, as this is a job I've never done before...
