ok guys im looking at buying harnesses and came up with a question

camlock or latch?

which one and why

I had the same question when I went to get belts. I found that latch were the hand down favorites for the simplicity factor. I heard that the camlock ones would jam up if they got gummed with alot of dirt of mud. In most cases the latch style are quite a bit cheaper as well. Go with the latch style

dammit i voted for camlock but I meant latch. i love mine and they are easy to unlatch even upside down. I also have heard that too much dirt or sand in a camlock is not too much fun

Camlock. Much easier to use, once you get used to the system. Also a lot easier if you're going with 5 or 6 points, rather than 4 points.

I bought the latch style for price and most people are more used to them if somebody needs to help me or my passengers out. On mine it was like 30 bucks a set cheaper, so putting 4 harnesses in got expensive, saved like 120 bucks by using latch style

Never much liked the cam locks, esp the early ones that had a huge focking lock on them. The latch style is just easier to use.

BTW, what is the price difference these days? I haven't bought belts for years as I always use the ones out of racecars. They turn them over every 2 years.

I think he's saying the latch style were $30 cheaper per set, so with 4 sets he saved $120

I think mine were $55-60 per seat.

I think mine were RJS Racing (or something like that) from Summit. I'm sure Jegs has some similar ones.

I got my from Polyperformance. They were Crow's. Good belt and 3" wide so pretty comfy. I paid 70 bucks each for them. My buddy Ethan works there and gave me a little price cut.

I'm so retarded that I don't even know the difference so I didn't vote on the poll. I think I have the latch style because one pull of the red velcro and the whole harness comes apart no matter what. Can someone school me???

I have a retarded question too. If I remember right, one style allows you to run just the lap belts and the other requires all 4-6 belts to be buckled. Which is which?

Went with Simpson latch style 5 points... got them used for $25 at a swap meet.

I definitly have latch style. You can run just the lap belt with the latch style with no problem.

Where are you guys without cages mounting the harnesses? Wouldn't mind picking up a used set of 4-points for my truck, but the only place I can think to mount the straps would be through the bed floor, with suitable reinforcement.

Don't drive at speed with a shoulder harness bolted to the floor - it would break you in half in a wreck. It needs to go to something shoulder height.

if its in a blazer i dont kno. ive seen guys build frames for seats and harness that bolt into factory holes for the seats and belts
