Harsh bottoming out ?????

When I wheel the truck on street or off road and I hit a ditch, crack, rock or something and the truck on the front bottoms out, it hit's hard. Is this common when the bump stops don't work anymore? I still have factory.

If I change them will it help some? Which would you recommend I go with.

I have a 6" lift in the front w/ a dana 60.
 
When I go up on a speed bump lets say and drops back down it just slams down and it hurts. I have new Rancho 9000 shocks, and the springs are still relatively new, not soft. They are Superlift springs.
 
Yeah I thought about that. Do I just need to jump it a couple of times to soften up? or what else can I do to soften them? What's a good shock to put up front to help with the harshness?

Superlift and Rough Country have the highest spring rates out there, over 600 lbs/in. Simply, they are very stiff springs.

How long have you had them on the truck? They will get a little softer after you use them for a while.

Messing with shocks is not going to appreciably help anything.

Are the springs/shackle bottoming out on the frame? Do you need longer front shackles? 6"ers or so. Arn't your stock ones about 4.5"? Look on the frame to see if you have had metal to metal contact where the springs have been bottoming out on the underside of the frame rail.

Put a zip tie around your shock shaft by the shock body. Drive around for a while and then check your zip tie. The shocks the aftermarket lift kits mount in the factory shock mounts are usually too long for the travel needed for the suspension to reach the factory bumps. Aftermarket lift kits sell bump-stop spacers or longer bump-stops to prevent bottoming out the shocks. Another way is to mount the shock higher with a Ford shock bracket or custom loop.
You don't want your shocks to be the bump stops. Now I need to practice what I preach.

Well I checked it out last night and my shackles are 6". They are not the stock ones. The frame shows no scratches or anything showing that they are bottoming out on the frame. I have high steer so can't possibly be hitting the frame. I am going to check today if the shocks are becoming my bump stops. I ran out of time last night. Found some other things that got loose from last wheelin adventure.
