Anyone else have a problem with their hoods? I think these hoods suck and would rather have my factory hood back on. Nothing fits right.

The last Camaro I built I put a glass Harwood cowl hood on it. It was the straightest, cleanest, best fitting, glass hood I had ever seen. Even the guys in the body shop said the same thing and the car was black. Always got asked if it was a steel hood, "no, it's fiberglass." "Holy s that thing is straight!, you sure it's glass?!"

But this was over ten years ago. So, I guess, no (10 years ago) I didn't have any problems with Harwood fiberglass hoods. But who knows what has happened since then.

If it's anything like my Hickey hood, I can relate:doah:
Polyester resins will constantly move around according to the temp. change and quality of resin. This technology of the 60's hasn't changed too much unless it's 2-part epoxy resin.

My glass hood was in the back yard a few years and worped so I removed the skin from a stock hood and removed the inner structure from the glass hood and glued it to the steel frame. It fits like the original hood and functions like it also.

hey zombie after getting it on do you like it? was it worth the effort? I was thinking of putting one on my 86 cause its the color of my 72 chevell so I thought I would go with the dome hood and stripes.

Is it a '73-'80? I think the hood on my '79 is a Harwood, it fit like crap when I got the truck. Some adjusting here, grinding there, some cutting there, and a little more grinding here... it finally fits OK. It does have a nice straight surface and nice underside though.

It takes a little getting used to because its in your sight path but it makes the truck look meaner and the heat pours out cooling the engine better. It was allot of work doing what I did because after I removed the framing from the glass hood all the resin needed to be grinded off to make the skin sit right on the steel frame but it was worth the work.
