Im just curious to see if anyone has actually snapped their 3/8 steel winch cable and how much of a bear is it to un-spool and drag uphill.

Never broke it but I ****ed up spooling it and sucked it down in a gap which casued it too birdcage and got all kinked up. It is pretty heavy but not bad. I currently run 125 ft of 3/8 amsteel blue.

I have seen them break, but it was from years of abuse & it having a bad kink.

Rope is very expensive, but money well spent. It is much lighter, easier to drag up hill, it floats, & it will not kill you when it breaks.

I have not seen one break either.. other than on the TTC videos...

I have 90' of 7/16 cable... wonder how hard is that to break!!! :wink1:

Years ago I drove a winch truck with 2 winches 1 was a 40k pto with 3/4" cable the other was a hydro milemarker 10k(i think) with 3/8 and one day while trying to unstuck a road grader I snaped the 3/8 then come to find out the guy had wraped the 3/4 around the 3/8 so the big winch was pulling sideways on the 3/8. Damn thats hard to explain without visuals.
