I'm getting really tired of fighting my rear window in the winter. I've seen some threads about putting a lift up hatch on a Blazer, but they have been more along the lines of a truck topper type of window. I wondered if it would be possible to cut away the back and recess a door in a way that looked like it came that way from the factory. I think there is a reinforcing frame in the back but don't know how deep it is buried in the topper. If someone were to cut up an old top and post some pictures of the cross sections of the rear pillars and the header of the window opening it might show whether or not this is feasible.

You mean like this. Actually I think mine is like the topper window you described. But I think what your talking about is WAY to difficult. This will be a much easier door to fabricate. I will make it lockable too.

nice....

I've talked about doing this in the past.. but it's waaaay on the back burner, now that I run a softtop..

Did you do a thread on that?

I seem to recall someone chopping a pair of Burb barn doors into the back of a K5, which is a bit of a trick.

I donno, the manual window on my CUCV worked just fine, and the other two K5's I've had either had no back window from the factory (Chalet :D ) or have no top, rear window or tailgate :haha:

The first-gen Blazers had the liftgate window in back, like the Burbs of the era. I'm guessing GM stopped offering that due to issues bonding the thing to the fiberglass, or maybe sealing problems?
