has anyone done a 14 bolt semifloat disc brake swap? HELP!!

3car - thanks! deinfately will do.

Just called, obviously they are closed right now. Sending email and will give them a call in the AM.

We spoke last night for a good while on these........

there is no problem with the brackets at all and they work perfectly, However he is using them with a newer SF axle and changes were made on those, I do not have one of those axles to even check the changes. We make these and hundreds of you have bought them and used them without problem. But in '88 chevy seems to have lightened up.

I believe the easiest and best solution would be to simply drill the flange to the correct stud size. If it caused any problems I would cover the cost to repair but it should work fine doing this but this is not what they were designed for.

But for those of you implying we don't stand behind our products you are entirely wrong. Just ask around.

Hopefully you don't think I was implying that.

I know well that you stand behind your products, I had one of your 14FF diff cover kits with the wide gaps in it....you offered a free replacement. I welded it anyway, just add more wire:D

I think that it was just not explained that your brackets were not designed on or meant for that exact application.

No, sorry if it came off like that......

But I just wanted to get the facts straight......I think I will just give him a FF axle, I have enough of them and he's not too far away.......

I have had one of the random 14 bsf axles it has slip off drums (8 lug) and they are shorter than the usual ones too. Dan did an excellent job of helping me out. But everything we tried didn't work and i wasn't about to weld on brackets. So i just bought a ff for a hundred and sold the semi for fifty. Dans a great guy. The semi floats are just odd sometimes. Get a full.

Full floater would just be overkill for me, my rig will never see more than 35" tires & very little strenuous wheeling. If no one's gotten the discs to work I'll probably just spend the same to replace the drums.

Which SF do you have? There are posts out there regarding sources, and which disk rotors work with the 6 lug SF's.

i did get them to work. I just needed the proper wheel studs.

I am still having problems with the brakes themselves. I am guessing (from advice on here) that I have a bad caliper cylinder. At times, my brakes will not release after braking, getting stiffer each time i puch the pedal and building pressure on the pedal. It will release with a full pedal push and be gone for a day or two. My problems have been time and weather.

OK, so the problem isn't with the setup it self, you've just got a bad caliper right? How did you finally get the rotor/axleshaft/studs set up?

Sorry it toook so long to reply, i forgot about it. I have been super busy with my house.

Correct, I just got a bad caliper (or something not related to the brackets :dunno:). It still hangs up sometimes. If the weather holds out this weekend, I plan on checking it out and seeing if I can solve the problem.

the brackets work fine. My problem was that I need the correct wheel studs. I ended up using ones made for the front axle with the rotor on the inside of the axle flange. I had to grind one of the rotors to fit flush with the axle flange (the other fit fine with no grinding :dunno:)

i have a 92 k1500hd with a semi floater 14 bolt 6 lug single wheel rearend and i am looking to get a disc brake kit myself. i am doing a stick shift and cummins swap so i need the better disc brakes
