Has Anyone Put In A V8 Cadillac 472 In A 80s C20 ?

Yes, they were mated to a th425, essentially a fwd th400...1970 was the first year and the best year with 10:1 comp. ratio and 550ft lbs, 400 hp. on the 500. BOP stands for buick, oldsmobile, and pontiac, which all shared bellhousings with caddy OHV v8.

Also, can the 1970 500 Cadillac Engine fit in a 1983 C20 ?

I got a 1994 TBi 454 sitting also.

Which I want to take the stuff of and convert the 500 Cadillac into TBi ,with the TBi parts from the 454 engine.

Note: 83' C20. 3:73 Gears . Tires 275/80/16s

Basically. The Th400 doesn't have to be built from STOCk.

Except the 700R4s and etc.

I don't see why not, thats the trans that came behind that 500 caddy. Anything will fit. Your skill and or $$ will determine. IIrc 88-89 big blocks had a TBI adapter to q jet manifold, factory part.

If your putting a caddy motor to a chevy th400, it will not fit without an adapter.

Please read up on the rules regarding multiple threads for the same question.

Oh, and answer the question that's already been asked. Is it a CHEVY trans or a BOP? What did it come out of?

Huh? If you can, show and tell me what the BOP is.

Also, My mistake. Its a 1970 500 Cadillac Engine. Not 472..
Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and it also matches Cadillac.
I have to dig it out to take a picture.
It will be a while I am swamped for a few weeks

I made a mistake.

It's a Cadillac 500 1970.

Well that’s not the case or a 600” Ford would be useful

This is what I was thinking, was available in the 600

Well it's not 600 ci although it's more than 500
At 7.5 cr I am sure it was a turd until they put a turbo on.
Maybe it was intended for a turbo.
Also that was old technology from the 50s, I am sure they can do a lot with 8.8 liters these days

Some of the marine applications were turboed. Found that when I was looking that up

I just remembered how much of a dog those engines were. 1950s and 60s technologies, both the Ford and the Cad engines

just to correct some information.

Cadillac big block is lighter than a big block chevy.

if we could compare apples to apples it will should make more torque than a big block chevy. It has a longer stroke. So by apples to apples, I mean, same air/fuel flow per cubic inch into the cylinder.

cadillac big block is priority main oiling. Thats good. The mains on the cadillac are massive!!! A factory block and crank have survived well beyond 1500 horsepower dyno assaults.

cadillac big block has a 5" bore center. With the aftermarket parts available can be bored and stroked to over 600 cubic inches. Like they say, no replacement for displacement. OH, I know. Boost. Well you can boost big inch applications as well.

That brings us to aftermarket parts. No, they are not as plentiful as big block chevy. However, they really don't cost that much more. Again, important to compare apples to apples. I'm currently running a custom cam, and custom nitrous pistons. They cost pretty much the same as the big block chevy custom counterparts. Heads, pretty comparable. Chromoly aftermarket crankshaft with a custom stroke grind, pretty comparable. Aluminum heads, meh, little more for the cadillac but not alot. Roller rockers, intakes, yadda yadda.

Headers, couldn't tell ya. I build my own, but they weren't cheap.

Adapting a trans, 10 minutes. Its so easy even a cave man can do it. In fact, I have an adapter hanging on my garage wall i'd sell for $50 plus a ride.

Heres one place that the big block has the advantage. Options. I addressed this earlier but to reiterate, the big block has a huge support. However, that can also mean that some of the stuff available for the BBC is not as good. The cadillac big block has but one company dedicated to producing aftermarket parts for it. The guy that runs it is the cadillac guru. He designed my cam and pistons in his head. He has years of experience with this one engine. Continual development on the aluminum heads. I think the third version is what is being cast now. Maybe 4th.

At any rate. I got no skin in the game if you are making the switch. Either is a good choice. I personally enjoy the Cadillac because its a little off flavor. I love the reaction when you tell someone its a cadillac under the hood.

Heidi loves the cadillac rumble.
