I really hate to ask as I have done little research and know you can use V8 and V6 setups but Was curious with out getting beat to death, if any one might know a post or even years to look for for the swap. I am working on 87 K5 and would like to do serpentine belt conversion correctly.

I'm no expert but when I did a sbc serpentine conversion on my motor the kit used brackets from 90-95 4.3, 5.0 or 5.7.

I also found the the 4.3's typically did not have the smog pump mount on the lower pass side bracket making for a cleaner look.

that only way to find it with a/c on pass? Never really paid attention to it.

yes unless you go to the 96+ vortec. But that changes a/c compressor style and alternator style.

ok good info to know here guy's and thanks for taking it easy on me!

I see where everyone is getting parts etc but yet not read where you need to grab crank pulley.

same motor you get the brackets off of. the tbi/vortec pulleys fit earlier motors.

If anyone is searching you can also use the small block setup on a big block with some aftermarket brackets

Eventually I'll be putting the 96 Vortec style on my 88 Suburban. Mine is already a drivers a/c and passenger alternator, so it makes sense.

This is what I did on my 454, the company is Quik Performance. Excellent quality kit and instructions.

Very good info. Wish we had way to make sticky on certain topics like this and group post together so newer guy to square bodies doesn't ask questions over and over like I did on the dana 60.

I think I bought a hose set for an 87+ K5 when I went serpentine. A/C on the passenger side is better, IMO. I never liked the long A/C hoses draped over the top of the engine.

I have an '89 'burb serp setup on my replacement motor. I'm switching to the '96 up setup to get the better a/c comp. (As inspired by Larry in his 8.1 Polar Bear thread)

And don't hesitate about asking a question! This is not that kind of community. I've never seen anyone one get ridiculed unless they really really really worked for it.
