My Cousin decided to scrap his 81 one ton leaving me to deal with the parts. Needless to say the Dana 60 front and 14ff rear are going into my K-5 unless I decide to do something weird. I know I have to move the rear spring pad mounts out. How about the front D 60 is it a bolt in or is there alot of mods to do? How about swapping the Hydroboost brake system?

hydro info

the hydro will go in and all you need to do is remove 2 studs on fire wall , make sure lines will fit the sterring box , use all parts (pump, lineslhydro, master) and bolt up and blead system then go have fun stoping on a dime.:cool1:

Depends on the gen of K5 vs. gen of 14FF

1st gens spring perches are narrower than 2nd gen spring perches.

1 tons have the same perch spacing as 1st gens tho.

1st gen = 67-72
2nd gen = 73-91

1st gen and 1 ton spring perches are 40.5" center to center
2nd gen spring perches are 42.5" center to center

If there are more(don't think so off the top of my head)others will chime in

Axles Swap

I don't know if you really need the hydroboost. I put one tons under my 88 k5 and didn't switch out the mastercylinder. I can put the front bumper on the ground and slow my truck down faster than my passengers really want me to. More importantly I can do it over and over and over again and not get any fade. I have heard a lot of people talk about how much a pain the hydroboost, but I have never dealt with it. I had to flip one of the spring perches on the back of 14FF and I rotated them up on the axle tube so that there is less hanging down. The 60 botls right up just make sure you get the spring plates.

so you would have to move each perch out an inch to put the 14bff under the 2nd gen k5? thats just cut it off and reweld type deal right?

If your 14FF came from a 73-91 3/4ton rig, and you want to put it in your 2nd gen K5, then its a direct bolt in except for a conversion ujoint and new u-bolts

oh so the 1 ton 14bff would be different? so whats the diff really between the 3/4 and the 1ton 14bff?

The ONLY difference between the 3/4ton and 1ton 14FF's are the spring perch spacing and the brakes...3/4tons came with 42.5" spacing with 11" or 13" brakes, 1tons came with 40.5" spacing and 13" brakes. Thats it.
