So...I have everything all bolted up and ready to go with my new edlebrock performer heads and intake, I am putting the last spark plug in and...:mad::mad: that fu^$%*&## only threads in one thread deap. I cant get it to install...WTF! Does anyone know of a way I can clean the threads in the head..I was thinking of running a tap through it with some lube???? Anyone know the thread size of spark plugs??? PLEASE HELP!!!

What year heads are we dealing with? Most heads are 14 x 1.25 pitch for spark plugs.

For my '87. So that should be the 14mm x 1.25 pitch? Is that the best to go at this problem? Run a tap into the heads with some alcohol or something as lube?

Tried that...no luck...its the head. oh...happens to be the #8 cylinder...nice and tucked against the firewall.

If you want to clean the threads or remove any debris that is in the threads without removing any material, I would use a type of tap called a thread chaser. A standard tap will remove some material every time it is used. This results in very loose threads. I would lubricate the thread chaser with oil and back it out 1 rotation for every 2-3 rotations forward to clean the debris out of the threads on the tap so it doesn't gouge the threads in the head. It is unusual but the head could of escaped quality control at edelbrock with a hole that was not fully tapped. If you can reach in the hole with a small pick, gently run the pick along the wall of the hole inside to out checking for threads. If you need to retap the hole, I would recommend removing the head to do it. I have done it successfully with the head still on the engine in the past, but it is not recommended especially with aluminum heads. If you do retap it while the head is installed liberally coat your tap in axle grease and clean and recoat frequently to catch most of the chips. Good luck.

I checked the port out with a mirror and its looks threaded...just not nicely. I will try the thread chaser...can I get one at any autopart store?

I assume an auto parts store would have it. If not an idustrial supply house would have it for sure.

Should be able to. Like was already said, get a spark plug thread chaser not a standard tap that cuts threads.

So I will get one tomorrow...I should lube it ?with standard oil to pick up the the crap?..or something heavier weight?
OH...BTW...thanks alot guys for helping me out on this so quickly, its much appretiated.
