the movie ''walk the line''....part of it was filmed in my hometown of helena arkansas, when she(june carter/reese witherspoon) buys the fishing pole and they are walking down the sidewalk and the sign behind says "hendrix shoes" and again when shes walking to the "malco"...those where both shot on our cruisin strip, the main street in helena named "cherry st"...when they go fishin', its just out of town at "storm creek lake"...and when he rips the sink off the wall of the motel, it was a motel in helena,also.
i met joaquin phoenix and reese witherspoon, both, i asked her out several times a day, when she was meeting people and signing autographs, and on 3rd day, and @7th time i asked to show her around town and show her stuff she otherwise wouldn't get to see, she told me "ok" and started telling me where to meet her and what not, and a production hi-up told her "no" and came up w/an excuse, she told him something whispering, and he said ''no'' again, you talking about going from an extreme high to low, that was it.
but i persisted and i did get to show her around, on their next to last day in helena, her and a bodyguard rode w/me in my moms new car and some production crew members followed us(they were intrested in the historical civil war parks....somewhere there is film of me & her sitting, talking&laughing, as they filmed at several places we went, wish i could get ahold of that), and i showed them some historical places, the louisana purchase marker, some civil war batteries that have markers telling about the site and the battles, our civil war museum, and confederate cemetary(i've seen a documentary, that i would swear was some of the film they shot from here) it has a beautiful view of the mississippi river, the mississippi river delta park, the sonny boy blues museum.
she was staying at 1 of the super plush casino hotels right across the river in tunica mississippi, and after half a day of sight seeing, we drove back to the casino and she invited me back to have dinner w/ her...
i went and changed clothes and went to eat supper w/her, in a casino vip resturant that i didn't even know exsisted,never seen it b4 or since, i told the people in casino up front that she had invited me and they made a call and then escorted me to a "secret" section of the casino that had several eating areas and entertainment and a hallway and elevator to high class rooms, that the average joe never gets to see, and most people don't realize it even exsists...i can remember it like it was yesterday! we talked for hrs. talked about all kind of things, about us both being born in march and me being a pices and her being an aries, by 2 days....i can remember her telling me her daughter was born 9/9/99...she said she had actually tried to get out of this role b/c she found out she had to sing in front of live audiences...i asked why that scared her and she replied "i can't sing", but she did pretty good, that is really her singing in the movie...she was a really down to earth person altho she is 1 of the highest paid actress's in movie industry, she knows quite abit about history also, we talked about both our families and about being southern(we are both quite proud of that) and she told me she was a direct decendant of the very 1st witherspoon in america and that he had signed the declaration of independance, i could not, not believe her, so smiling, jokingly, i told her that made her "american royalty!, no wonder you are so beautiful"..she replied "please, i'm just a country girl, who got lucky and chased a dream."....i thought to myself "yea, right"... i didn't know it at the time, but she really is just a good 'ol country girl...well not "just"...i tell ya that is a day i will never forget...ever! it improved my popularity in town also, funny how that works! people still ask me about it when i go "home", almost 3-3 1/2 yrs later!
