I doubt it is water. A quart of water would be at the bottom of the pan, it would get sucked into the pump and spread everywhere. It would be a mess. Do an experiment, put a little water in a jar that is mostly oil and shake it up, see what it looks like - the oil in your engine would be the same.tRustyK5 said:I still think the sooty oil is masking the coolant in the oil.

Would that work with diesel? I don't have much experiance with the stuff, but my dad who has a diesel Jeep Liberty has told me you could hold a match up to diesel and it wouldn't burn easily.smalltruckbigcid said:here's an oldtimers test for fuel in the oil. Check the oil and take a lighter and try to burn the oil on the dipstick. If it burns easily thats supposed to indicate fuel in the oil. If it doesn't burn easily it should be normal. How accurate is this test?but it is cheap fast and easy...

If you have a block mounted fuel lift pump, it could be bad and be leaking fuel into the crankcase.
If the bottle was full and the radiator was low then yes it most likely is a head gasket.84CUCV said:since you guys are on this. not to hijack, just wondering. friends got a 91 sub with a 6.2. everything seemed fine. first ride about 20 min. water all over under the hood. water bottle was full. head gasket? thanks
