Do any of you have a prefered Head Gasket? Metal or Composite? This is for my 383 TBI motor with Iron Pro Topline heads. Compression Ratio is probably around 9:1 tops.
I have a set of FelPro 7733 Pt2 but just want to verify that they will last before I install them. I would not mind getting another set if it is recomended.
you can't go wrong with Felpro. The 7733 are a good gasket. I have used on several rebuilds(felpro sets is ALL i use anyways!!) But know they are a "stock replacement" gasket. I don't usually use the steel shim gaskets, unless I'm trying to "tweek" the most compression out....legally?? Unless the surfaces are damn near perfect and torqued perfect, they fail more often. If you at all worried about the head gaskets failing, step up to the 1003 felpro's http://www.jegs.com/i/Fel+Pro/375/1003/10002/-1
i cant remember the number, but i rebuilt mine with felpro gaskets.they were slightly thicker than stock just in case the heads were slightly warped.my engine builder buddy said they would be less suseptable to heat changes inside the engine also.i havent had a problem in the 10 years since i built the engine.
What is the difference between the Severe Duty and the regular 7733? All the places that I checked at need to speciall order the Severe Duty gaskets (and they are almost 2x as much money). Also the bore on my block measures 4.025, the 501sf gasket specs say 4.00 bore. Is that a problem?
I've used nothing but Fel Pro permatorque gaskets. No problems.
PermaTorque® Performance Head Gaskets Fel-Pro's must popular gasket design do date
Fel-Pro PermaTorque® head gaskets include a wire ring combustion seal inserted inside the stainless steel armor. The wire ring design provides highly concentrated sealing around the combustion chamber
The rubber / fiber facing material of the gasket is reinforced with KEVLAR® fiber, laminated to a solid steel core to resist torque loss and seal fluids.
