Head Gaskets

does the intake have to come off the change head gaskets on a 350 small block? If someone has a detailed discription on the head gasket job, that would be appreciated.

it may be possible, but it would be easier just removing the damn thing.. why wouldnt you want to remove the intake?

It's not possible.. The intake is bolted to the heads...

just because I dont want to mess with taking off the distributor and I dont want to mess with timing

your are going to have to tare the whole top end of the motor apart
Its not hard to do, just make sure you mark you distributor so you can just drop it back in.

pick up a Chilton's manual it has all the torque specs you need

Not to mention there wont be any bolts holding the intake down at that point... And you couldn't get a new intake gasket in and get the heads back over the dowels..

Boy, this is really silly... If your willing to do head gaskets, but not a dizzy...

Make sure you've got a torque wrench and do the headbolts in the right sequence...

Once you see the top end of the engine disassembled, live and in person (which I'm guessing you havent ever done yet), you'll see why leaving the intake on and removing either or both heads can't be done.

Also, consider that engines don't usually come apart as easily and cleanly as they do on the TV shows, where everything happens in 22 minutes and works great (unless you're "Jesse James" and just leave stuff unfinished anyway).
