How much power can be gained from a basic pocket porting job on a stock set of 305 heads. I was gonna go with vortec heads but I think I can get the power I'm looking for out of a port job, cam, and intake manifold.

Also what size carb would you recommend for a 260hp 305? Would a single barrel 500cfm q-jet be enough?

When I was looking at doing a set for my monte carlo a port and polish was 15-35hp over a stock head and that includes gasket matching. It really depends on how crappy the heads are from the start. If they are half decent heads then your not gonna gain as much. If you do it yourself theres a really good right up on thirdgen.org or montecarloss.com I cant remember which.

I'd say a 550 or 600 for that motor.
