Head Swap

So i started changing my heads tonight. When i took off the intake i noticed a small brown thing by one of the push rods. I picked it up and guess what it was... A f***ing rock!!! And it gets better. There was two of them in the lifter valley. They were pretty small but still, how do you not notice a rock in the motor when your putting it together.
