I bought a Trans Am in SC with a Kenwood KVT-715 headunit in it, it worked great for about 2-3 months. Then once the weather started to heat up it started giving me these problems.

Every once in a while, it will have NO audio output.

Ex: Drive the car, shut it off. Once I start the car again, headunit powers up,but there is no sound output. Hitting the volume button, shows the volume increasing but there is no sound. Switch the function to CD, allow it to powerup and start playing then swap back to radio, and whala the radio works again.

Now, anytime I put it into cd/dvd mode it shuts off. The only way to turn it back on it to hit the reset button on the face. At this point it has erased all of my settings.

Anybody have any suggestions? When I talked to Kenwood last the representative told me that if it continued to give me problems to ship it to them and they'd take a look at it.

I know not your normal truck tech but I figured I'd give it a shot.:D

If you send it to them, they will call you with an estimate to repair it. This will usually cost more than just replacing it to begin with.

Unfortunately these days, especially with car stereos, they are outdated 6 months after they come out.

yah, hate to say it, but probably not much you can do besides replace it. But pull it out for ****s and giggles and check all your wiring connections, wiring harness connector, etc.

I used the same sony for like 8 yrs, and it never skipped a beat. Let the truck sit for a year after DD duty for the past years, and the FM tuner stopped working.

You could check all the connections to make sure nothing is loose but from what you just said right there, I'd say the unit itself is bad. That's a pretty fancy and pricey headunit to just go throwing away, I'd send it into Kenwood to see what they say. Then if the price to fix is to high, ask yourself if you want something fancy like that or can get away with a cheaper head-unit.
