Header collector bolts loosening up...

I have the same problem with the nuts coming loose and the bolts coming out. What works best for me is double nut the bolts. They stay on there for quite a long time relatively speaking. Really the only thing that knocks them loose is a few hard wheeling trips.

You guys are making this waay to complicated. If you do it with the correct size tack weld, it WILL hold the nut tight, and it's usually no problem to bust the tack with an impact or ratchet. No need to cut/grind the tack off. One small tack will snap off with very little effort. For something like that, there is no need for fancy/expensive stage 8 bolts. :doah:

everyone i know who has headers has this exact same problem, me included.

Never had this problem. Also never had a problem with flange bolts loosing and blowing out gaskets. The biggest problem with headers is people buying the cheap ones with thin 1/4 flanges...thin everything more or less. I did buy stage 8 header flange bolts...but never anything fancy with collector studs/bolts etc. Just a small tack on each one. About 5 minutes for a permanent fix. Seems silly to me to NOT do it this way.:eek1:

I've never had problems with the flange bolts either. As little as I drive my truck (maybe 1000 miles on the headers?) I wouldn't think double nuts would back off. Tack weld is easy, I give you that...but since I now have to buy bolts anyways, maybe I'll just get the crimp style.

I've got a pretty simple no-weld solution for the collector bolt "problem" but I'm not sure it's marketable, and I know I couldn't make it.
