ok so i believe it is called the collector..
i have full tube headers..
that go down to a 3 bolt adapter.. believe it is called a collector?
well mine rotted off..
so trying to find them locally is not happening..
napa, autozone, even a muffler shop... meineke... but a race shop can order them.. $45...

so my question is this...
what is the difference as some are cheaper..

example...
what i need looks like this
3" collector, 2 1/2" exhaust - $35

but i still need to replace a section of the exhaust then..
and the piece i need.. has 2 45 degree bends.. and looks like this..
$24

why is the one more than the other and has less to it?

Skip the 3 hole flanges, they will leak. I just recently switched over to "ball-n-socket" setup. 100% better and seals great. no gasket required.

check summit, jegs, etc

Agreed, I just went to a new set of hedman's that are ball and socket due to collector rot/hole. They are so much nicer than the flange style... No matter what collector gasket I used it just never held up (aluminum gasket lasted the longest at one year)

only problem i see with that. is how does it connect to the header? i need to replace the headers? if so i aint got the cash right now.. trying to get other things in order first...

I've used band clamps. Need to be sure the exhaust doesn't move back and forth, but much nicer and work 10x better than the 3 bolt POSs......

Muff shop cut mine off while on the truck and just welded up the ball-socket setup. Wasnt that difficult, cost me 100bux for the labor, well worth it.

You just weld them to the end of the header. Most exhaust shops will have the three bolt flange on hand. It shouldn't be a problem for them to weld a new one onto the header, and repair it for you.

If you are really that broke, just get some pipe and weld it up:dunno:
You can always sawzall it to remove.
When you "collect" (haha) $100 or so, do it right with the ball and socket.

I just picked up a cheap set of collectors from Summit, I think they were $20 w/bolts, and gaskets, a 4ft section of pipe, and 2 clamps. It couldn`t have gone together easier. Not the best stuff, but cheap $50 total investment for my beater to quiet it down.
