I can post a pic later but just curious if anyone had went through this. I have and 84 suburban with 350, just put long tubes on. The issue I'm having is the previous owner put a oil cooler on , the adapter for feed and return lines is about 1.5"-2"s thick causing the filter to sit right against header on the bottom .5" of the filter...I know I couldld take the cooler out but would like to leave it drive it on the beach in deep soft sand alot and I'm sure that helps keep oil temp low digging in the sand.

Less filter is not always the right answer but there are shorter versions of the filter (car applications, etc).

You might look into an adapter to turn the filter 90 degrees. Seems like there was one on 88-up stock.

Definitely double check me because it’s been a long time since I sold parts but in AC Delco a PF35 is a 1 qt filter and I think the short version is a PF25 (about 2/3 qt).

Just run the "car" filter on it and be done.
I don't use fram. But the numbering Fran uses is used by other filter manufacturers.
It would be a 30 number.

It might be factory. :dunno:

One thing to remember is that there won’t be a regular filter fitting under that oil cooler adapter so you’ll need to get one of those.

They have a “car” version that isn’t as long. Plus you should have Wix anyway.... hehehe

If not can’t you put a little “dent” in the header and some heat shielding/wrap on that part of the header?

The oil cooler is most likely factory, but the hoses like to leak and the adapter likes to leak at the block. I usually just take them off and install a regular oil filter adapter when they start to leak. In this case with the headers being in the way is just another really good reason to get rid of it. Here is the only part that is needed.
A NAPA 7099 filter is about half the height (from a GMT400,800 big block 4wd) and will spin right on.

Best idea I can think of won't solve your problem but may help your engine last longer...DITCH THAT FRAM FILTER!!!

Worst filter you can put on your vehicle, IMHO.

I had one split out the side immediately after installation. High volume oil pump NOT high pressure oil pump.

Friend lost a high dollar drag race engine due to Fram filter.

Look on You Tube at the internals of Fram vs. quality filters, WIX, Purolator, etc.

YMMV, probably to the tune of reduced engine life.

Not trying to be a prick, just a friendly warning about what I know from personal experience and first hand knowledge of others I know.

I have a pile of fram filters that are headed to the dump when I sort through my mess in the garage. They were from previous years where I wasn't so concerned about quality but more focus on the money. Sometimes a kid has to grow up before they truly learn.
I prefer wix for aftermarket since they are OEM for many companies. Wink wink Before I realized about Fram

That being said, my suburban had a big block filter for this very reason. I kept the oil cooler and just changed the filter more often. My current big block has a horizontal filter setup.
