Hey guys, I bought an '87 TBI 350 K5 Blazer, all stock except 6" lift and 36" tires. Donut exhaust gasket and muffler leaks. It needs inspection and is a bit sluggish so I thought I'd replace the entire exhaust system. I want to run long tube headers and true duals. Question 1; what is a good ceramic long tube header that will fit without making modifications to the vehicle? I want to make sure I order the right ones.
Question 2; do I need cats and o2 sensors to make it run right, given the fact that its fuel injection? There is no emissions test required where I live because the vehicle is 25 years old. Thanks in advance...

Here is your thread! http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213472&highlight=hedman+header

You need the O2 sensor. You do not need a cat, but it mitigates some of the obnoxious odors from the exhaust. Federally illegal to remove the converter, but I don't think anyone but exhaust shops worry about that one.

If you aren't completely set on duals, single 3" will do every bit as well, and require less parts. Underside of the rig will be a bit more open. I know I'm fighting my duals fairly often when I'm under there.

Thanks for the info;
I read through the thread. He used #69830, will these fit a 1987 K5 Blazer? My year doesn't show up on a compatibility search for that part number.
#69890 does show up for my year, but in that review people are saying #69890 will rub the leaf spring shackle. Is that true of the later K5 Blazers (1987) too? I'm confused...

There is no difference in design '81-91 on the K5's. You never know what you are getting with aftermarket companies, some of them don't understand the K5 was the same '81-91, or due to emissions differences what is legal one year may not be the next, drivetrain combination may cause fitment issues, etc.

If 69830 fits ANY of the 1981-1991 K5's with your drivetrain combination, then you will be fine. I did see that someone in that thread said they had an '81+ with 700R4, so no idea why they would not fit your truck.

If your truck has AIR, you'll lose it with the headers.

Ok, cause he was fitting them to a '77 K10, not sure if there are different clearance issues for an '87 K5?

I'm not really "up" on the pre-81 stuff, but I can't recall anything that was different that would affect header fitment. Frame and suspension was the same.

A bunch of people later on chimed in with what they fit, don't take my word for it, find someone else with your year truck/drivetrain that got them to fit. 700R4 I assume?

Skim that thread again, make sure you find others with the 700 who said it would fit. Early on I think I saw someone mention there was linkage issues, but later people were saying they did fit. Always a toss up with headers unfortunately.

Ye, I've been reading through it. Looks like you can work around the linkage if needs be. I think the 30's are the way to go. Where should I locate the o2 sensors? On the collectors?

I just installed the 69830's on my '90 Blazer with the 350 and TBI. Fit wonderfully, but I junked the column shift for two reasons. One, it was so sloppy and worn it needed to go anyways. Two it saved me some headaches trying to route the exhaust around/below the linkage.

Great quality IMO. I don't even have my collector bolts final tightened yet and no leaks with the ball and socket collector.
