Evening Fellas, I'd like to see some exhaust routing pics on BBC trucks w headers and auto trans, spicifically frame clearence at the header(header brand) and routing past the trans/xfer case. Thanks.

I used Sanderson shorty headers, into a 2.5" "Y" pipe and then a 3" single tailpipe with a Magnaflow muffler. I love the headers, absolutely no fitment issues with the frame, shackle or hydraulic clutch parts.

Pics are in my thread starting at post #328 - http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217030

Start at post 1230 for detailed info about exhaust clearance and shackle clearance issues....The headers are L&L's

Beautiful work, wish I was doing a frame off..

Again, nice fab up..

I'm really looking for full length headers and routing on both sides of the xfer case..

I put a big block in my dads 76 suburban with Hooker Headers they fit fine.

Were those Hooker comps? Any pics? Love to see um.. Correct me if I'm wrong but the frame was more narrow in 76?

I'm pretty sure they are Hooker Competition, on the driver side there is a good 3 inches from the collector to the frame. On the passenger side there is only about a half inch from the end of the shackle bolt to the collector. Other than that there is plenty of room everywhere else. I will measure the distance between the frame rails and try to get some pics for you. I have it on the lift for awhile so should be able to get some easy

They are hooker competition headers, on a 454. There is atleast a good inch or so clearance from the frame to the header tubes up top. The frame measures 29.5 between the rails right behind the shackle mounts right where the frame straightens out. It also has a ORD engine crossmember. I got some pics just need to post them.

Wake up this old thread..

Afternoon fellas, for those of you who don't know I smoked the top end on the BBC in my v30 and I'm in the beginning stages of specing a rebuild plan. One of the several things floating around in my head is still what headers to put on this truck. I said before that I was going true dual but I have changed my mind. My motor is gunna b a torque motor and a 3" single is what I think I'm going with. So.... The question is can some of you post up what you are using for headers and Y arrangements, pics and part numbers would b awesome. It would be great if we could stick to BBC w slush boxes for sake of apples to apples... Thanks guys!

Take a look at my first reply again. I know mine are shortys but they really made a difference (to me) over my previous long tubes with respect to working on it. Mine is a 4spd but other than moving the main pipe outboard another 6" it should be the same.

Long tubes fit these trucks easily, is there some reason you can't use them? They are superior in probably every regard, except fit, sometimes.

Nvrenuf, thanks; I didn't know that was your blaze! I live that rig, looks mean as hell! I have considered those Sandersons, I consider them in the same quality range as a Doug Thorley.. For me it's about the fit and your look perty nice in that regard.
dyeager535, no; there's no reason at all and I'm certainly not opposed to long tubes. What's important to me is the location or accessibility to the starter, oil filter, collector flange where it bolts to the tail pipe. That's why I'd really like to see pics of people's set ups.. I'm a visual kinda guy, theory inst my bag...

My Dad's got long tubes on his with 454, but manual trans. I might be able to get pics, although my phone doesn't take the best ones...

I don't recall him having real problems getting at anything. If you are rebuilding the motor, you shouldn't have to be under there much, right? :) But I know what you mean.

Ok cool.. I know people don't really have bad issues with long tubes that fit but the few I've seen with an automatic the collector flange is like right in the most inopportune position right between the xfer case and the frame rail, or interfering with the shackle. So I'd really like to take a look at some setups with the header identified.

yes... a nice trouble-free outlet and good torque characteristics...

I do think their dump is conveniently located... Iirc, you don't have to contort your hand to bolt them up as well....

they've always seemed like the perfect choice between shorty convenience and fit, and long tube performance to me..
