Im looking to put some headers and new exhaust on my 95 3500. It has a 454. I'm a total newb with computer controlled motors. Will I run into problems if I out on the headers and remove the cat when I put on the new exhaust? Is that going to freak out the computer?

well you in cali you will need cat.

and also make sure all the stuff is c.a.r.b aproved and has the c.a.r.b stickers.

or you will have tons of problems.

oh ya and cats must be cali certifyed and aproved for use in cali and installed correctly or you fail.

Yeah, I didn't catch that you were in california. The cat's in california are becoming even more strict. Get the right one the first time around

Lol yeah dude you gotta pay $150 more for a high flow cat just so it can be stamped CARB. What a ****ing joke of a state.

Yes I'm in California but I'm smog exempt. So none of that is an issue. So ignoring the part of cats needed for smog...back to the computer issue.

What county are you in that allows a smog exemption from?
Yeah our smog laws suck. Now all cats must be OBD-2 certified regardless of what vehicle its gong into so the price is now through the roof, No where near the $130 for a high flow i installed 4 years ago.

The only way I can see a car or truck in cali being smog exempt is if it has a farm plate. There strict. If you move in from another state your car has to be changed to cali standards.I guess a truck could be differant but its a 95 and last I checked 25 years was the exemption age you need to remove the smog components.

ny law if emmisions tag on cowl shows cat then has to have it . even on 8600-up gvw trucks / vans / so on.

most guys dont care on 8600-up stuff tho. thats why all my trucks are true 1ton k30 tag and title. no emmisions for me.

best check your rules first brother. dont need to spend money 2x in the end. :D

Farm Plate? huh. Ive never heard of that here. And cars in certain counties are exempt. But the only county i was aware of having exemptions is Lake county(as in clear lake), and i was told that it was a population thing vs sq miles of land in the county. Basicly not enough people live there for them to give a rats ass.

Yes there are still smog free counties in California but not many. I've also heard of the AG plates nut I believe once a vehicle is AG it can't be driven on the street kind of like green stickered rigs.
