Headers selection help

Hey now,
rookie mechanic here and am getting ready to start at my motor and was looking for some new headers. I went by my local muffler shop and found out there's a whole hell of a lot more that i need to know about header selection, and that they could cost up to a million dollars /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Anyone got some sugestions on a set that would not exceed 250$ and still give me good performance in the low and mid range.
Oh yeah the truck is a 74' blazer
