Headers short or long

Yep, still running TBI. Mine are those, except not in stainless. I painted them with high-heat paint. Get the stainless. They do fit very well though, and the ball and socket flange is a very nice touch over regular 3 bolt flanges.

Thanks for every bodies help:D:D

Imo headers are a pain. Next time im going with the 2.5" outlet ram horn manifolds. They tuck right up close to the block and shoot straight down allowing for exhaust routing however you want. My shorties are too close to everything. I also had to bend the crap out of the linkage from my column to my tranny because it hit when shifting into gear. I also had to modify my accesory brackets alot to make them fit.

It depends on the header!

Can't see any downsides to my Hedman's, except #5 plug needs an open end or spark plug socket to remove, and the shackle interference which is corrected with the headers in the other thread.

So much room they clear my clutch hydraulic lines, never had any leaks at the flanges (using the bolts they provided, no fancy locking setups or pricey gaskets), the starter has been on there for 10 years or so (since I put the motor in the truck), truck has no problems staying cool, and I've yet to burn a plug wire. If I had stainless headers you could even wrap them to keep from burning myself if the engine was running.

Since I haven't had to swap starters, I can't comment if I can get it out with the headers in place, but fairly certain I can. If I were to replace starters, it would be with a mini-style in any case.

i have a cheap set of headers.. long tube.. only problem i have and had... is they come close to the shackle...

other than that the collector rotted on me already.. but that is since 2004.. so i cant complain..

im gonna fix it the way it is.. and keep running the long tube headers..
however if i got 2005 6.0L next year.. then stock manifolds it will be for me...

What about mid-length headers. I just bought a set of flowtech knock offs from ebay. They actually had thicker flanges than the flowtechs. I used them to replace some pacesetter shorties on my 97, sure seems like the truck runs better.
