The 383 stroker in my truck has great power, and I wouldn't think about changing from my exhaust manifolds to headers but... A friend of mine said I would get a lot more out of the engine, and it would sound awesome. Those are both things that sound good, but will headers affect low end power (crawling around in low range etc)? Also, what about reliability? Thanks forum!

I think some generalizations have to be made, because not every combo has been tested with/without headers. This article has some pretty good testing, with not just crazy-output motors http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/49178-headers-power-increase/

Obviously, the gains will follow displacement.

Additionally, thicker flanges and tubes will last longer. Hedman even makes stainless headers that fit, unfortunately they are ~$700.

That is a great article. Thanks for the info.
