Heading to new york to tow a K5 back and I need that warm fuzzy feeling

The k5 should be light(er) because it is missing some parts etc, but it's a 4 hour drive.
I have a 1990 GMC F/S Jimmy I will be towing a 1979 K5 with.
The jimmy has a 350/700/3.73/31's combo.

GVWR is 6100 according too the door.

I've asked and told I should be fine, but can anyone help me with the math here, so I get that warm-fuzzy?

Weight of tow truck:
4,839lbs
GVWR: 6,100

Max weight of K5:
4,371
Some of the parts that go to it will be in the bed of the jimmy....

Car hauler:
~2,000lbs

I've lied to UHAUL so far, saying I would be towing a 95 intrepid and they thought I'd be okay. I figured if I told them I was towing a k5 w/ a k5 they'd say they'd rather not rent too me... /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

Please help!
 
will the K5 fit on the hauler?i pulled a 77 short bed with a 79 jimmy.using a tow bar. the hub fried on the 77 30 miles into the trip and a hub fried on the jimmy 50 some miles later. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifthe three hour ride turned into 7 hours. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
 
Chevy trucks will not fit on Uhaul trailers if they have non stock tires or rims.

I'd have to say as long as you drive nice the only thing you have to worry about would be your tranny temp. Got a gauge on your tranny?

Pulled a Full size Bronco with an Explorer, from Okc to Las Vegas with a tow bar. I made it, but I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, DOH.
 
Doesnt need one- The U-haul flat bed trailers use surge brakes. (a dolly does not weigh 2000 lbs!)

It does with a truck on it.

Me and Chris discussed this via aim. Although not ideal, as long as the trailer has surge brakes, I'd go for it.

U-haul IIRC has never had a dolly with surge brakes for rent. I know they make them, but their dolly's do not have them last i checked at the local u-haul....

If I meant dolly, I would have said dolly... I'm looking into a tandem-axle car hauler w/ surge brakes. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Pull away. I have hauled m1008's with a 1/2 ton truck. the only thing to worry about is if the blazer will fit on the uhaul trailer. I have a custom built trailer just for hauling heavy trucks. But one time i used uhaul to get a 98 dodge dakota 4x4 extra cab. I had to pull it all the way up as close to the fron as possible and it still had half the back tire hang off. i just winched it down tight so it would not move. you can meaasure your truck and see if it will fit 1st. the brakes on there trailers work great.
