what is everyone useing for headlight and or grill upgrades for this generation chevy pickup. I'm looking for something to complete the look on my dually project. I've just rounded up some caddy taillights and a rollpan for the rear. but the front needs something too. any recomendations or ideas?

:ears:

This is what i did to the front of my 97.
Black grill from lmc
billet inserts
clear corners
billet bowtie

After i all ready posted this i see this thread was from back in September oh well.

ya no body cared to reply..........

I went with a GMC front. and I'll get some billet inserts for it. i didn't like the caddy front look. I think the color match GMC fronts are a much cleaner look.

Lookin at doin something to the front of mine. Goin with this hood but may find an actual fuctioning one.

I'd love to go with the phantom grille but i'm not about to spend $350 on a grille. :doah:

I like your grille but wish it didn't have the GMC in the middle. Think it'd look better in my case :dunno: wonder if i could cut out the center in the circle portion and possible put something in its place

Random thought but have you done the trick where the low beams stay on when the high beams are on? Gives you a lot more coverage immediately in front of the vehicle.

Not an appearance thing but useful none-the-less.

i'll have to look that up but my highbeams are pretty damned good and if my headlight lenses were clearer they'd be great

but i always like more light. Help shine those little eyeballs in front me a little faster. ;) that's deer BTW

I did that with my old dodge. although the dodge headlights sucked azz they needed everything they could get.

I;ll get some HID bulbs for mine 1st and see how that goes.

So Demon. What do you think?? Would it be feasable to take the center section of the grille out and get something to take it's place??

you can (I thin) remove the entire center and install whatever you want. Actually I believe most of the aftermarket billet insert stuff is exactly that way. yuo do have to cut it out though I think. but my dad drives a '98 1500 GMC and he found one that cover the whole rectangle without removing the grill. really restricts air flow through but its been that way for years now with no problems.

I'll have to look into it. Wonder how th insert installs??'

Your dads sounds like what i wanna do ;)

Thanks

exactly you have to cutout the original center for that. see how deep its set in. the ones that cover over are basically flush with the rest of the grill. you can't see the GMC logo its under a solid piece.

I see. Think i'll look around. My stepmoms dad gets good deals on replacement parts cause he owns a carlot. Think i'll just talk to him and see what i can come up with ;)

For your truck (DEMON) I'd get the clear corners with the euro-style headlights and parklights. Get rid of all the color on the front, but not flashy, like with the projector style lights. Put the "blank" grille in there, smooth chrome bumper, fog lights under the bumper, and call it good. Enjoy a sleeper (like no one will tell there's a Cummins underhood.)

..........and i totally lied to you my pops' truck isn't how I remembered it.

doesn't cover the GMC emblem. and is set in. just using those finger screws. no problem with airflow or overheating. he's had it on since he got the truck 8-9 years ago. never been a problem. maybe not so good for my appliction with an intercooler back there with the rad. but the 5.7vortec hes got never been an issue.

I just replaced my clouded headlights with OEM stuff...I like the stock look

theres a company that actually makes a landrover conversion grille now for 88-98s...not my cup of tea

Anybody got pictures of this or a link to it? Disturbed enough I want to see it.
