So instead of adding more and more aux lighting I've decided it'd be a good idea to upgrade the factory lights so they're actually useful.
I know doing the relay mod helps but I'd like to take it a step further and look into HID's.

Sooooo what have you guys done? I know HID's aren't a lively topic around here but I figured some of you might have some experiences with running them on our trucks. On my '85 I have the stacked rectangle headlight setup.

I was thinking of trying to find some housings that are setup for an H4 bulb since that seems to be a readily available option in the HID kits I've been looking at.
 
LMC has the housing several places on ebay too

HIDs are a great upgrade but be careful on your high beams they take a bit to warm up and get to full strength. I don't remember but the low beams stay on when you switch to high beams on your truck don't they. Hmmm can't remember if they do or not
 
You may also want to look at the Silverstars to replace yours and do the relay upgrade. You would be amazed at how much more light the Silverstars put out compared to the standard halogens you currently have. The lights are more expensive, at about $40 each, but well worth the investment.
 
one guy on my forum in MI sells the HID ballasts and bulb kits along with the conversion housings for real good prices-- I'll get you his email
 
'Fore you worry about the bulbs, do the relay mod. I betcha even the newer trucks have relatively small-gauge wiring and the extra juice will make a world of difference regardless of what lighting proper you use. It's also cheap, if labor-intensive.

Yeah the low beams stay on when I hit the high beams...

For the time being I might just order up the wiring harness from LMC since I can pop that on in no time and at $30 like some of you said it might be worth trying first. Plus I can get it in before our New Year's trip.

His digital ballast kits are 70 plus 10 shipping, and his conversion housings are 50 a pair.

I like the 5000k color range with no blue tint.
Is there a purpose to the blue tint?
I was reading 3000k to 5000k is best for the human eye. Seems like up to 6000k also is ok but it has a slight blue tint (something I don't personally like vision wise).

This seller has 35w and 55w bulb kits with choice of color temp for $50-60 and color display chart.

I talked to dune jump's friend and he seems to have the hot setup. Two digital ballasts, two bulbs in whatever color range I want, relay/wiring AND a pair of new housings that are designed to have an HID bulb in them shipped to my door for a very reasonable price.

Holly ****, gotta pay more attention on the dates.....


I did the HID upgrade on my truck, dual headlight set up plus i have 2 hella 4000 with HID as well, now in my experience the more spread out the lights are the best if i turn my headlights all 4 of them i dont get that much more compared if id only turned the top headlights only.
Also not to bash on the guys sale but ive heard the digital ballast fail with the heat....LMC headlights are overpriced....$70 something bucks although they are nice but still there are cheaper options for exameple stylingtrucks.com has some for around $15 each and for HID kits let me know i know a place lifetime warranty and cheap.
 
Yeah, but for example in my case i hate thoose sealed lights, they always got vapor inside them and the light would be all dim, so i prefered to spend a bit for the casing with interchangebla bulbs and then i saw the HID cheap and went for them just a matter of taste i say
