Got an 85' 1 ton 2wd 2 door with the 6.2 diesel. It had been sitting for about 10 years and i got it out and running for the most part. My problem is i have no headlights, all the marker lights, tail lights, and parking lights work, but no headlights. I have replaced the on/off pull switch in the cab and cleaned all the connections and grounds. I have also tested the headlights by connecting them directly to a 12v power source to see if they work, which they do. I have power to the switch and coming out of the switch but not at the headlights. All the fuses are good, is there something i am missing, fusable link or something? If it may be a fusable link where would it be located? Thank you for any suggestions, im kinda stumped.

If you've got power through the switch, then the only problem can be the wiring or fuse panel connector between the switch and the headlights.

Headlight power goes through the dimmer switch after it leaves the headlight switch. I don't remember whether it's on the floor or column in '85, but the first thing to do is cycle the dimmer switch about a dozen times. This very well may clean the contacts and make it work, since it's been sitting for 10 years.:D

Thanks guys. I have "flicked" the dimmer switch several times but ill try some more. Quick question- Does the headlights have a fuse in the fuse panel? There has to be something protecting them? I see taillights and all the other lights, but not one reading headlights. Thanks again

I don't see one labeled for headlights on mine, either, but I would check all the fuses anyway using a test light, it's much faster and more accurate than looking at the fuses. Other than that, I would still tend to suspect the dimmer sw, but you should be able to check power in/out of it at the connector on the column.
