Hey guys, just ran into a problem. All of a sudden none of my headlights work. Everything else works including tl's , fogs, blinkers and interior. Thinking a fuse or ground wire. Has anyone else ran into this problem? I have an 88 jimmy 350. Thanks

Likely the headlight switch. They aren't fused, and if the interiors work, it's not a fusible link problem.

You checked the basics, like the wiring/connectors to/at the headlights, right?

Yea I did a run down of all the basics last night. I'll let you know if the headlight switch was the problem as soon as I can get to it. Thanks for the help

Unfortunately the headlight switch wasn't the problem. I'm gonna run a test light to see if the bulbs are getting any power.

It's getting power to the bulbs. Now I'm thinking either all bulbs went out at once or it's the wiper switch that controls high/low beam

If you are getting voltage to the bulbs, it would appear nothing is wrong but the bulbs needing replaced, no?

Does seem unlikely all would die at once, is this perhaps an intermittent problem?

Yes but it's just weird how all four could've gone out at once, never happened before. They went out while driving home last night, very difficult getting there on two dim fog lights. Anyway I'm gonna change out the bulbs tomorrow and if that don't work I'm gonna try dimmer switch .

Sounds like a bad or stuck dimmer switch. I had a simillar issue recently but I had my bottom lights on ALWAYS (HI-beams) and no power to the top lights reguardless of the switch position. I took the switch apart and the contacts were burnt up on the contact wheel. Picked up a new one a NAPA for less than $30.

Ohh...check the ground near the lights (should be just above the lights). You may have voltage with your meter and its own ground but double check the lights ground.

Ditto on the ground wire for the headlights, the small gauge black one near the battery that screws to the radiator support can get pulled off or corrode until it comes off sometimes..

Ok, bought new bulbs, re-did ground wires and put in a new headlight switch. Turns out I was reading the voltmeter wrong and I'm not getting any power to the headlights. Gonna test the relay and the in line fuses. Then lastly the dimmer switch . I appreciate all of your answers.

What relay and in-line fuses? If you've got that junk in there, perhaps that is the source of the problem, a PO. :)

Should be nothing but a fusible link (or bad connection) stopping the headlight switch from getting power, which is a constant 12V source, thus why they are supposed to work regardless of ignition switch position.
