Heaph's Build Thread - Built not Bought

I dont know if you covered it earlier but are you going to mess with your shackle angles at all? I know this thing aint gonna be a flex king or anythng but they just look like they need some work. But ya, That thing totaly brings the kick ass!!

I'm gonna move the rear axle back about 4-6" so I'll address that then. The front will suck, but it probably should be done.

I've been researching flipping the chunk 180 on the rocks. When you flip the steering axle chunk the pinion becomes centered. If I do that on both front and rear steering axles and have my t-case centered the driveline will be centered and symetrical...thought that would be kinda cool.

Tomorrow I'm gonna build some staging and stairs so I can work on this thing a little easier. Also gotta come up with some stands for when I pop in the rear steer.

I'd say this answers the age-old question:

"Can I fit 49's with no trimming?..." :D

It's a crazy truck, no doubt. If you want to get noticed, I'd say you've succeeded.

The only thing I'm concerned about as I look at those photos (other than shackle angles :wink1: ) is the shot from the rear where it really illustrates how high the frame and body are relative to the axles. That amount of weight is going to exert a TON of leverage against those spring mounting points on the axles, and at the bushing ends.....especially going around corners at speed. A set of 2.5" wide springs doesn't seem like enough to prevent that body from shifting out of position and/or breaking the spring mounting hardware that's there now.

Have you thought about using some sort of panhard bar setup to help the springs locate the axle laterally?? I'm not trying to diss the build, but I think from a safety perspective you might need more than just springs to keep everything in place when "real life" dynamic forces are applied.

:usaflag:

ps. Your truck really brings out my inner-child. :D

I agree with that:
Ny spring with more than 4" will tend to twist at the connections and could benefit from a panhard bar, with your amount of lift I would definitely put some.

Thanks guys! A panhard is and was definetly in my plans! From the back it looks scary to me to!

Even though its huge I want it to be safe, solid and as well built as possible.

Wow!!

I would say a boarding ladder would be a wise investment :eek1: :D !!
Yeah, when we were done, I suggested a fire escape ladder to him:D

Did some woodworking today.

Made a stand to hold up the front or rear half for when I rotate front chunk, swap in rear steer or move the rear hanger back.

Thought I might as well make some stairs and a landing. HA!

just from expierence, prepared to get pulled over a lot!

my friend just recently bought a harley davidson f-350 that he gets in trouble for every day at school and on the road. i live in texas where you can have a truck any height as long as your headlights are relocated to 54" and the tail lights at 72", and even though he has this done he still gets chit. But what do you expect with 36" of lift and 53" michelins on a four door ford???

Very impressive. I just spent the last hour checking out your build and I must say SICK!!
