So what do you guys use to shrink heat shrink tubing? I've been using my a lighter or my butane torch for years and I think it's finally time to step it up and buy a heat gun. So what says the brotherhood? :ears:

I have used a propane torch, but only on the bigger stuff. ciggerette lighter for the smaller wire.

I really should invest in a heat gun as well.

My boss's heat gun. Unknown brand, unknown price, damn fast and effective.

Been using zippo and propane at home, butane at work, just cause they supply fuel. Have someone made a cordless heat gun yet? I've been waiting for years for that. I hate having to pull out an extension cord to heat on the trucks, I do have one (harbor freight) on my home workbench. I'll build in sections with extra length on the bench, then cut sections to length on trucks.

Always have used a propane torch. One with an adjustable flame rather than the on/off type. Always seems to be right there from the soldering.

I use a pencil torch on the smaller stuff, my heat gun takes longer and I can direct the heat much better with the torch. No cords to plug in either.

HF heat gun, for the small stuff, my heat gun not sure of the brand, but it has 3 different nozzles on it to help direct the heat. Also has like 25 different heat settings.

Had to go look for you cause I didn't know the brand. Wagner. Had it for so long I take it for granted...

HF heat gun. I am on my second one. Extended use (abuse) killed the first one.

I have been eyeballing the Milwaukee one at the Home Depot though.

I do so much cable/wiring work in the boats it's ridiculous... being it's somewhat of a mobile gig alot of the time, i use a bic, pencil torch or even my mapp gas alot..

i prefer the heat gun, but i generally only break it out when i'm doing a fair amount of it, or there's an outlet convenient... the heat gun definitely does a nicer job, especially on big stuff... mines a Mac...

and i ALWAYS use/recommend quality shrink tube thats adhesive-lined..

imo, it's worth it in most apps.. i've seen cheapy shrink tube not keep moisture out and the connection fails...

didnt even know that kinda stuff existed. when ive done connections that are gonna be exposed to alot of mosture, or under water, i put a glob of superglue on the connection, and then shrink the tubing on top of it. guess that does the same thing???
