What sealant is used to seal the the two boxes (inside and outside) back to the firewall? The sealant that the previous owner used is obviously not what was supposed be on there. But, it did kind of work. It's not all hardened, infact it's fairly malleable.
I want to do this right. What do I use?

Does any one have any pics of what a 73 k10 firewall is supposed to look like? The previous owner screwed a piece of tin on there for some reason. I'll need to repair this

Is that it?
Just one square-ish hole, and two smaller holes for the heater core tubes?
****! What in the flying **** did the previous owner do here?

Yep, that's how they look. The picture you attached above of a Cowl is a 67-72. That's why it looks different. Good question why the last guy put that plate there. Maybe you'll find a rust hole behind it

Just go buy a Vintage Air set up and junk the mess that you have, just sayin
I had one of those systems. Took it out after putting up with fogged up windows during rain storms in the summer and most all of the winter. The heat output wasn't great either.
Recirculate only makes it a challenge to keep the windows clear quite often. Blower motor inside the cab wasn't as quiet as factory either.

I noticed later that the lower left corner of your photos are in focus. Might be the app.
