How do you remove the heater box on a 1985 G30 one ton Chevy van? I need to change the heater core and I haven't been able to figure out the process. I have removed all the bolts I could find and drilled 2 inspection holes so I could look inside but it is still solidly mounted.

Did you take the whole engine cover off inside? Would it be easier to get to?

If I remember correctly, it's inside behind the lower part of the dash, just like the trucks, you have bolts on the outside and some on the inside.
Did you remove the engine bay box yet?
You will need to.

Oddly enough, I have a Haynes manual for Chevy/GMC vans through '87 around here somewhere.

I'll scan the appropriate pages for you if you want.

Thank you for the offer but I cut an access hole in the front of the heater box today and removed the heater core. I had to drive into town to get a new heater core so installation will have to wait until tomorrow.

I installed the new heater core and new heater hoses. Then I started to clean up my stinky antifreeze everywhere mess.
