Heater core bypass

If the heater core is not being used is it better to connect the two hoses together or block off each hose at the manifold and radiator?

It would be MUCH better to remove the hoses entirely than to connect the ends together. This eliminates the possibility of hose leaks from damage or deterioration, and also cleans up the engine compartment.
