Where are all the bolts that hold the heat distributor at? I found the one on the bottom of the AC housing and the one inside of the blower housing. I still cannot get the bastard out!:confused:

Did mine last year. Not quite sure what bolts your talking about. Have you seen the tech article on heater core replacement on the home page? Helped me out:dunno:

I finally found the last nut holding the damn thing to the fire wall. NOW, how in the hell do you get this piece of **** a part????? Whomever designed this crap needs it shoved up his arse!!!!

I've already removed the two screws where the arrows are pointing. As well as the others along the outside edges.

IIRC the whole length of the box needs to split in two. there should be pesky little screws hidden all around the perimeter.

Them more I think about it... I think you have to pull a couple of the metal rods that act like hinges for the blend doors. If you inspect the box carefully, I think you'll see that 1 or 2 of those rods go through both "halves" of the box where they overlap eachother

Did mine a few months ago in my 89 and I never could get the two halves to separate. Even with all the little screws apart, dismantled everything possible, and it was still together. I made the decision to carefully remove the old heater core and slide the new one in, after cleaning the anti freeze out of the duct work. I tried to split it while I had it all apart, and the seams were glued (like superglued) together. As I tried to split it, I was cracking the plastic housing, so I stopped.:dunno:

Wrestled my new heater core in without damaging the fins, etc. Put it all back together.

I completely agree, the genius whom designed that collosal mess needs it shoved far into his arse. You think once you get it off the fire wall is an achievement, bullsh#t. The fun has just begun.

If yours is like mine and you choose to go the same route as I, watch the bracket that holds the heater core in. The 2 tiny screws are a beeach to get out / in without splitting the case (no room, I used a box end wrench, a gear wrench would probably work). I dropped them into the duct several times before finally getting it all back together.

Have fun....:thumb:

I finally got the piece of nightmare apart. Pulling out the one shaft did the trick. I was afraid of breaking the whole assembly because for some reason, plastic parts and I don't get along very well. I can break more than I can afford to fix, lol. Now I need to hit up the stealership and get a couple gaskets that were dry rotted, the one that goes between the box and the floor and the other that goes around the core outlets.
