How hard is it going to be? Any hidden screws? Any tricks I need to know?
Also whats this black thing at the top? It has a vac hose at the bottom of it....I cant rember where it go`s , to the
carb or one of those things that screw into the manifold.

Black thing should have just one vac line, right?

IIRC, it's a vac tank, basically like a battery or capacitor for the vacuum system ... as the vacuum off the engine fluctuates, it regulates the level and provides a buffer for accessories like the heater/AC flaps.

Looking at the pic reminds me, if/when you upgrade your alternator you're gonna need a big fat wire from the alternator output straight to the battery ("big fat" being #8, prolly.)

As for hidden bolts, look up the heater core removal tech thing (on the ck5.com home page?) ... IIRC, for trucks originally equipped with AC, there are a coupla bolts that are a PITA to get to, like some folks remove the inner fender to avoid using lots of swivels and wobbles and extensions.

(I've never done it myself, as the only heater core I've swapped was on a CUCV, so no AC :D )

No worries -- you're not the only person to ask, and, say, two and three years ago I was asking a LOT of questions as I worked through my trucks. Fortunately I've basically got them where I want them, and so I figger I can share my experiences and save the next guy some research time and/or pain and suffering.

And hey, the advice and information is worth what you pay for it (i.e. nothing! :D )

Aaron's Tip For The Day: Bleeding brakes sucks. What sucks more is forgetting to wear gloves when you do it ... means when you take a shower, your hands pucker up like prunes and stay that way all afternoon.

Zog not like prunes.

That's why they invented vacuum bleeders and speedbleed fittings. Those are two of the best investments I've ever made for every vehicle i've owned:waytogo:

I actually was pressure bleeding, but the bench bleeding of two master cylinders and the disposal of the fluid got away from me ;)
