Hello members. I’m looking to change out my original alternator on my 89 K5 for a higher output one. I also need a battery and was thinking AGM model but have not actually decided yet. I did get about 6 years 8months on the old NAPA premium.

I put an ambulance package alternator on way back. I dont remember the details but I remember having to rewire it to handle the new alternator.

Hello Gentlemen Thank you for the assistance. Well I ended up getting a 690 cca Deka battery. My OEM alternator is ok. System is charging sufficiently. Sometimes I overthink things which leads to not getting things done. I usually like to overkill on my projects. I will order a alternator just in case. Now my next project is idle speed. I have done the intake manifold gasket twice. Every time you got to pull the connections off the TBI. Well both connections really need to be replaced because one is loose and other has a cracked connector. I need to order replacement connections. They are I believe brittle. After that some new shocks , carpet and interior work.

Are you talking about the two connectors that go to the injectors? If so, I may have an extra set you can have. Just pay shipping. I'll look to make sure, just let me know.

Egg out the bolt hole for the alternator and run a DR44 alt and bolt/nut in that hole. That’s what I’m running on accident but it’s worked out great. Without the computer talking to it, max voltage is 13.5. It can have the regulator reworked but I never did. Huge body and better cooling than anything else.

With my cooling fans, trans temp fan, hi/low beam, running lights, LED backup pods, 6 interior dome lights, and radio on (everything that could possibly be on except winch) I only saw a .3v drop. That’s right, 13.2volts steady with everything on. Most new cars don’t charge at 14.7v anymore.

New cars charge at 14 volts now
