hey all

my question concerns finding the most heavy duty hitch availible for my m1009.

first of all, please don't ridicule me about how i'm exceeding the vehicle's gvwr, and how unsafe it is. I know it's a little extreme, but I live in the city of chicago, and i trailer my boat less than a mile to the lake, on side streets, very slowly and carefully.

I have only been able to find a class 3 hitch, does anyone know of a class 5 hitch available for the k5 frame?

I pulled it all summer with a slightly modified cucv hitch with no problems, but i bent the hitch on my last outing. I was thinking about beefing up another cucv hitch, now that i know where the weak points are, but i'd like to hear some constructive ideas if anyone has any. thanks

That would be the GCWR that you are exceeding, in this case, and HOLY CRAP that's a lot of boat on a Blazer. :doah: Not trying to give you a hard time, but the reason you can't find a beefier hitch is because that much weight is not recommended for the vehicle. You might have better luck looking for a class 4 or 5 universal truck hitch. It might require drilling some new holes for mounting, but they usually just mount with flat plate on the outside of the frame rails.

thats awesome man. i dont know of a hitch. could you maybe modify the trailer to use a coupler. i think its called a pintle hook or somthing and adapt a hitch the same. how does that truck pull it

of course the trailer has brakes, smart ass.

it pulls it fine, as long as i'm not trying to break any land speed records, or travel hundreds of miles, it's no problem at all.

in my initial post, i mentioned the fact that the boat launch is less than a mile away, and i am slow and careful while towing.

I'm not sure how legal this would be, but you could build a very short "trailer" that hooks to the K5, and the boat would hook to that. The mini trailer would support the weight of the boat, the K5 would have less load on the springs then. Does this make sense to anyone? Backing up would require some practice, unless you've got experiance pulling tandem trailers.

Yeah, but backing down the lauch ramp would be an adventure. From the sound of it, he doesn't drive much farther TO the ramp than he does ON the ramp. The dolly IS a cool idea though.:D

That's what I was talking about, Didn't know someone actually produced one of them though.
